Professor (Mrs) Okecha had her primary school education at Immaculata Primary, Onitsha. She later attended Mbaise Girls High School in Imo State where she obtained the West African School Certificate with consummate ease.
Though qualified to study at any university, she elected to study nursing because of her love for humanity. She was admitted to the famous Baptist School of Nursing, Eku, Delta State, where she led her class all through. She would go on to emerge as one of the best three nursing students in Nigeria, which earned her the prestigious Florence Nightingale Prize.
Professor Okecha would later graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, with a B.A.(Hons.) Education (English) in 1985. In 1997, she achieved an M.Ed. Educational Management from the Delta State University, Abraka and in 2007, went on to gain a PhD in Educational Administration from Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma.
Blessed with a rich pedigree in midwifery, teaching, and administration, Professor Okecha has worked and taught in various institutions across Nigeria. Positions she has occupied include Staff/Midwife, University Teaching Hospital, A.B. U.; Zaria and University Sick Bay, A.B.U. Zaria, English Language/ Literature Tutor, Government Day Secondary School Samaru, Zaria, English Language/Literature Tutor University Secondary School, Bendel State University, a position she also held at Delta State University.
Professor Rita Ebele Okecha retired from the Ambose Alli University in 2018 after several decades dedicated to imparting knowledge around the country.
